Introduction HRA is a hardness obtained by using a 60kg load and a diamond cone indenter for materials with extremely high hardness (such as cemented carbide). HRB is a hardness obtained by hardened steel ball with a load of 100kg and a diameter of 1.59mm. The hardness is used for materials with lower hardness (such as annealed steel, cast iron, etc.). HRC is a hardness obtained with a 150kg load and a diamond cone indenter for materials with high hardness (such as hardened steel). HRA, HRB and HRC are three different standards of Rockwell hardness, becoming ruler A, ruler B, and ruler C. Rockwell hardness test is one of several common indentation hardness tests. The initial pressure of the three scales is 98.07N (10Kgf), and finally the hardness value is calculated according to the indentation depth. Ruler B is suitable for softer material testing. Ruler C is suitable for harder material testing. The most commonly used scales are HRC, HRB and HRF, where the HRC scale is used to test hardened steel, tempered steel, quenched and tempered steel and some stainless steel. This is the most widely used hardness test method in the metalworking industry. HRB scale is used to test a variety of annealed steels, normalized steel, mild steel, some stainless steels and harder copper alloys. HRF scale is used to test pure copper, softer copper alloys and hard aluminum alloys. Although the HRA scale can be used for most ferrous metals, the practical application is generally limited to testing hard alloy and thin hard steel strip materials.
